Scipio Community Church

Sharing the Gospel in Central New York

Here are some answers to some of our commonly asked questions about the church and our ministry.

What are your Sunday Services like?
Our Sunday services are what many would consider a more traditional service. Since this question usually has music in mind, I will focus on that. We mostly sing hymns and we have a worship team that leads a few contemporary songs once a month. From someone who spent much time in the contemporary music styles, I have come to realize that music style neither enhances nor inhibits the work of the Lord. Much of that work is connected with prayer instead of music.

Do you have Children's Church?
We do not have Children's church during the Sunday Worship hour. The reason is because we would rather families be together during that time. This sometimes makes things a bit nosier during service, but we don't mind. We do have nursery where you can view the service for younger children and nursing moms.

What Translation of the bible do you use?
Our pew bibles are New International Version. But many in the congregation bring their own bibles, so among the church family you will find many different translations.

What denomination are you affiliated with?
We are an independent, evangelical, bible believing church. And we currently are not connected with any denomination. Our history page gives more of an account of this.

How can I become a member of Scipio Community Church?
To join our church there are some requirements that we have for those interested. First and foremost you must be a Christian and willing to share your testimony with the Pastor and Deacon Board. Baptism is also one of the requirements. We also ask that you attend at least 6 months before joining, just to see if you feel called to be a part of our church ministry. And we ask that anyone interested in joining the church goes through a basic bible study with us.

Do you perform Weddings?
Some, not all. It is the pastor's conviction to perform christian weddings only. Both the husband and bride "to be" must be a christian and interested in establishing a christian home. It doesn't make much sense for non-christians to want a minister to perform their wedding if they have no intention of building a godly home. We due give pre-marital counseling to those we are marrying. Re-marriage also depends on the prior individual’s circumstances. Another minister may be used for performing a wedding in our church building as long as it meets our general criteria.

Do you Perform Funerals?
Yes.
